Регистрите за пациенти с главоболие могат да доставят изключително важна информация за клинико-терапевтичните особености, качеството на живот, трудоспособността, използването на здравни ресурси, несрещнатите нужди на страдащите хора от дадена популация и допринасят за развитието на науката за главоболието. Изграждането на регистър с качествени данни изисква системен подход и придържане към определени принципи. Етапите и елементите на създаване на регистър за пациенти с главоболие включват: определяне на цели, определяне на екип и администриране, изготвяне на научен протокол, определяне на формата, включване на данни от валидирани въпросници, скали и структурирани интервюта, определяне на източниците на данни, спазване на етичните аспекти и защита на личните данни, набиране на достатъчен брой участници.
